The Miss Parliament International Board (MPIB) has announced its plans to organize the 1st edition of the Miss Parliament Nigeria Beauty Pageant (MPBP) between November 2nd and 9th, 2023.

The event with the theme “Turning Beauty into success” will be held at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.”

The event, which was initiated and founded by the Precious Enebuse led MPI in 2022, with the inaugural edition proposed to be held at the National Women Centre, Abuja, was shifted to this year 2023 due to security challenges and other perennial problems bedeviling the nation including flood disaster that ravaged many parts of the country in 2022.

The MPI Chief Executive had previously explained that the showcase of upcoming project is intended to give Nigerian female youths the opportunity to participate and exhibit their talents, thus empowering them to become self reliant.

The goal he added is also to inform, educate, and sensitize the youths on legislative processes, principles, and responsibilities as well as create new messaging lines that would reduce tension.
According to him, it is also aimed at repositioning Nigeria as Africa’s investment destination thereby winning back fleeing investors and development partners.

He further reiterated that the project will serve as a reliable platform for bringing the parliamentarians and their constituents together, particularly the youths, to chart a new course for our dear nation irrespective of their political ideologies or party differences.

According to Enebuse, MPBP exudes class, responsibility, excellence, patriotism and influence as well as advocates and showcases Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, good moral behaviours, beauty and brain within an atmosphere devoid of indecent dressing, sexual harassment and other forms of immorality that are prevalent in the society that has made it almost unattractive for the morally upright individuals to take part in beauty pageantries, he said.

The event promises to be impactful as the initiative would focus on empowering both undergraduate and graduate females in Nigeria and in other countries, whose ages range from 18 to 30, to work towards a more promising future for themselves, their families, and their communities in line with the United Nations’ Global Goals for Women and Girls, he said.

The event will be attended by both individuals, personalities, government, and private organisations, which would come from the 36 states of the federation and the FCT

The event will begin with registration of contestants from the 3rd of January until September 31st
The event will close with a grand finale.

The preliminary selections will commence October 19 – 26th, at the headquarters of the six geopolitical zones.

Winners in zones will qualify to contest at the final phase in Abuja, from November 2 – 9th. The grand finale will take place at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, on November 9th, 2023.

The last day will feature the opening ceremony and would have speeches, goodwill messages, and addresses from leaders, stakeholders, and the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The event will continue with the announcement of the Miss Parliament Nigeria Beauty Queen, 1st and 2nd Runners-Up, and presentations of Star and other consolation prizes to winners and facilitators in the project.

It will end on Thursday with presentations and exhibition of products and opportunities for meetings by prospective partners and sponsors.

Caught in the app
The lying art
He had mastered
With a sense of craft
And practice
He loomed viral now
Like a scandal on insta
Grammed in the pun
Of words he failed to fun
And fund his way from
The gaffe that should
Consume the timber
Of his caliber
Even as he prattles
Praying for bigger goofs
From the goof men in power
To consume his own
So he can return to his winning days
Of ease and pleasure
Obot son of Akpabio
The one who sent prayers
Oiled in the anointed tone
Of a money alert
In the inbox of his colleagues
In the sin ate house
Of the horribles
Is the man with the gavel
The hammer to nail in
The unreason that governs us

His crime is not that he is short
There are many short men
Who are not intimidated
By their height
But not him
Who had to find the pole
To vault his ambition
Higher than men taller than him.
In grace and in place
So he could find a way
He became a brave curser
A hijacker and hate spreader
Hiding behind a loquacious tongue
Redlipped with morning lies
Betrayed only by the saliva flecks
At the corners of his mouth
He swipes and lies more
Hidden behind his framed glasses
He railed his anger to pave the path To climb higher and taller than all
So he divided his city into two
Uneven and unequal parts
And the unhappiness he spread in one corner
Rivaled the happiness he sowed in the other
And so he canceled himself out
Like the accident in our public space
That he says he is
