Police in Imo kill One suspected armed robber, arrest two after a gun duel
The Nigerian police in Imo on Saturday killed a suspected member of a dreaded armed robbery gang during a shoot-out in Owerri, the State capital.
It was gathered that the gunmen around noon stormed a popular jewellery shop, Goldwise Jewellery Shop, at Ikenegbu Layout near Kilimanjaro Ekwema Crescent Owerri.
The criminal gang of seven, who came in a white Toyota Hilux it was gathered encountered the operatives of the State police command who had cordoned the area after shooting the driver.
With the knowledge that the police had shot the driver, other members of the gang took to their heels
Findings indicated that the two suspects were arrested and ammunition recovered from them during the operation.
The Imo State Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Henry Okoye confirmed the death of the suspects while parading the two suspects out of a seven-member gang.
The police spokesman further indicated, “At the point of arrest, one AK-47 rifle, two magazines, two live ammunition, one military camouflage, and some other military accouterments were recovered from them”.
He said a 27-year-old man, Gaura Peter, from Koji State, and Joshuah Promise, a 25-year-old from Delta State, were arrested and are in the command’s custody.

One of the coordinators of the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot Soldiers Independent Council (LACO-FSIC) in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State Alaba Excel has been by gunmen
A statement on Sunday by the State Information Director of LACO-FSIC Kayode Fasua said Excel was killed in his Supare home on Saturday.
“The Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot Soldiers Independent Council (LACO-FSIC) on Sunday decried the gruesome murder of one of its ward coordinators in Akoko Southwest Local Government area of Ondo State, Mr. Alaba Abe Excel, with an appeal to the police authorities to protect its members against implacable opponents,” the statement read.
He described the late campaign coordinator as “resourceful,” adding that the development is a shock to members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the council.

He said while the situation is under control, troops have gone out to track down the fleeing adherents.
“We assure members of the public that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety and security of the general area.
“We urge the public to remain calm and vigilant, and to report any suspicious activity to the appropriate security agencies. The safety and security of the citizenry remain a priority, as we will continue to work tirelessly to maintain peace and order in the region,” Major General Nwachukwu assured

Kidnappers highjack two Abuja-bound buses conveying passengers in Kogi

Two buses fully loaded with Passengers travelling from the Eastern part of the country to Abuja have been highjacked and passengers abducted in Inele-Eteke Ogugu new road in Kogi east Senatorial district
The two buses belonging to God Is Good (GIG) transport and Logistics company and the ABC transport company were highjacked while heading to Abuja by Kidnappers in Kogi state.
The source further discosed that GIG bus left umuahia at 7:30 am on Saturday on its way to Abuja.
GIG company it was gathered has contacted security services and they are tracking them.
Meanwhile the Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the Saturday kidnap of passengers aboard two Abuja-bound buses from the Eastern part of the country on Inele-Eteke Ogugu new road in Kogi East Senatorial district of the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Williams Aya (SP) made the confirmation in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday in Lokoja.
Aya who could not give the number of passengers however, confirmed that two buses were involved,
The PPRO said that the state Commissioner of Police, Bethrand Onuoha, immediately directed the Divisional Police Officer, Local Vigilantes and Hunters to comb the bushes with a view to apprehending the hoodlums and rescuing the victims.
He disclosed that Onuoha further deployed the Tactical Squad consisting of Quick Response Unit, Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, as well as conventional Police personnel to the area to continue with the bush combing to ensure all victims are rescued unhurt.
Our correspondent gathered on Monday that the buses, one from GIG Motors and the other from ABC Transport heading to Abuja were intercepted by the gun-wielding hoodlums on the lonely road in Kogi state.
The victims were said to have been marched into the bush by the hoodlums leaving no traces.
According to the source, the GIG bus left Umuahia at about 7:30am on Saturday enroute Abuja adding that the GIG company said they had contacted security agencies.
